The Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management organizes the 15th edition of its business game. It caters to students from all over the world and brings together more than 300 participants.
More 300 students gathered at the Sheraton Hotel at Brussels Airport to take part in the business game organized by the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. This international event celebrates its fifteenth edition.
“It’s the biggest simulation game in Europe,” explains Thomas Strauwen, one of the student organizers of this competition. For two days, students, half of whom come from abroad, compete as part of simulation games presented by the companies sponsoring the event.
Two business games were on the program on Friday. On this Saturday, three more events will decide on the participants. Euroclear, one of the event’s partners, has a number of Scenarios to test students on business topics which they will encounter in the future when they are active in the labor market.
“We test their ability to make decisions in a business environment. They are asked to choose the best technological platform, reorganize internal procedures or envision a new hierarchical organization,” explains Diane Dister, Human Resources at Euroclear.
Goal: recruitment
The company’s presence is not entirely innocent. Euroclear uses the event to identify future recruits. “Our company is unknown to the general public. However, we employ more than 4,000 people. We have many employment opportunities: We offer diverse jobs and highly rewarding careers in finance,” emphasizes Diane Dister.
“The fact that there is a challenge makes it very concrete. We immediately see certain students who stand out.”
The head of HR is certainly in the right place: “I am convinced that I will identify profiles that could join our company,” confirms Diane Dister (Euroclear). The concept of the business game is less static than the usual working days and other events that bring companies and prospective candidates together. “The fact that there is a challenge makes it very concrete. We immediately see certain students who stand out.”
In addition to Euroclear, three other sponsors are taking part in this event, organized by a dozen students from Solvay Business School. The BDO consultant imagined a negotiation competition aim to test students’ ability to enter into an advantageous contract. McKinsey held an eloquence contest and Luminus a strategy contest.
